An Evening at Shanmugas

Plain Naan with 3 different gravies
Tandoori chicken with sliced onions and lime
It was a perfect eveing at Shanmugas at Berkeley, Klang( that's Selangor, malaysia, for those of you outsiders). The food was even better. I'm not a big fan of North Indian food but this place is exceptional. Furthermore, these guys don't use baking powder in the Naan bread, yet it is soft in the inside and a little crispy on the outside. I wasn't too interested in the Dhal and fish gravy it came with but the mint and onion chutney (the sauce sits in between the fish gravy on the left and Dhal gravy on the right in the picture) is just exquisite! It has a perfect balance of mint and onion and one doesn't overpower the other.

And as for the Tandoori chicken, the meat was tender and not too dry, as some places would overcook the chicken until no moisture is left. What is unusual about the marinade here in this place is that they incorporate cinnamon powder and clove powder in to the mixture, so it makes it a little more aromatic anf flavourful than their counterparts. The portions are big too and it is best to have someone to share it with.

Finally, my verdict -
7/10 for the Naan bread
8/10 for the Mint and Onion chutney
7/10 for the Tandoori chicken
